Undersea Surveillance
USSI’s Harbor Security and Diver Detection systems are designed to address the need for a safe, environmentally friendly monitoring method that provides continuous sensing, 24/7. While current state-of-the-art sonar systems have proven to be effective, they introduce high energy sound waves into the water that raise both environmental and safety concerns for ports and harbors. Many will simply not allow continuous operation of such high-powered active sonar for fear that it will adversely affect ocean life.
Because the wet end sensing portion of the USSI system is all-optical, it can detect very quiet underwater threats such as divers, swimmer delivery vehicles, mini-subs, and autonomous underwater vehicles without emitting potentially harmful frequencies. It also eliminates the need for electronics to be placed in the water, which have been a typical cause of failure in traditional systems. The fiber cable can be installed on the harbor bottom or suspended from a floating protective barrier for set up flexibility. |
