Structural Integrity Monitoring

Aerospace
Many new aircraft are replacing metal with composite materials. The lifetime of these new composite structures can be dramatically improved by continuous integrity monitoring.

Applications include:

1. Composite blade monitoring
2. Structural monitoring
3. Fabrication process control
4. Planned/Preventive maintenance
5. Damage assessment

Wind Turbines
The average output of today’s wind turbines now exceeds 1.5MW, with blades over 100 feet long. USSI monitoring systems can provide significant cost savings through condition-based maintenance, reduced downtime, and lower risk of catastrophic failure.

Monitoring can include real-time strain/deflection as well as vibration.

Storage Tanks/Silos/Reactors
Whether oil storage tanks, reactor vessels or grain silos, monitoring for temperature pressure and other parameters is critical for control of environmental conditions for preventing deterioration of product and optimisation of asset value.

The ability to monitor multiple functions using intrinsically safe optical based gauges in harsh environments can help perform complex task such as performing volume temperature compensation oil storage tanks, can increase safety through dynamic hot-spot monitoring and ultimately results in reduced cost of ownership.
